Continuing Competency for CDAs in B.C.
Continued competence is essential for Certified Dental Assistants (CDAs) to maintain high standards of care, protect public safety, and grow as professionals. The BC College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCOHP) is responsible for regulating CDAs and setting requirements for ongoing continuing education (CE) to ensure that skills and knowledge remain current.
Important Update: BCCOHP Quality Assurance Program (QAP) Changes Coming
BCCOHP is currently reviewing and updating its Quality Assurance Program (QAP) for all oral health professionals in BC, including CDAs. This means that the information below is subject to change in the coming years. Please stay informed by checking for updates directly from BCCOHP.
Current QAP Requirements for CDAs (as of now):
- CDAs must complete a minimum number of continuing education (CE) hours to renew their certification each year.
- Your QAP cycle begins at the time of registration and runs on a three-year calendar cycle (e.g. January 1, 2020 – December 31, 2022).
- You must complete 36 credits over each three-year cycle (1 hour = 1 credit).
