SUMMARY:Beadwork is Medicine
DESCRIPTION:The traditional Indigenous practice of beadwork can be used to positively impact peoples’ mental\, emotional\, physical and spiritual healing. Participants will learn about the holistic healing advantages of beading\, from an Ininiw Iskwew (Cree Woman) perspective\, practicing the craft on an individual basis as well as my experiences teaching it to groups of all ages. Beadwork is medicine is a model which was developed for my PhD work through both research of the study of the holistic benefits of beadwork and my experiential learning that can be utilized and implemented through a multitude of community organizations\, school based programs and on an individual and collective level. \nPRESENTER \nTammy Wolfe is a proud member of Norway House Cree Nation\, committed to advocating on Indigenous social justice issues because of her lived experiences. Most recently she attained a Master’s of Arts in Indigenous Governance degree\, successfully defended her thesis\, “Unheard Voices: Healing Stories of Reclamation and Rebuilding for Families of MMIWG2S who have not been involved in the National Inquiry”. This work is close to her heart as she honored her mother as well as all others impacted by the ongoing problem of MMIWG2S. She is a PhD Candidate at the University of Manitoba\, studying beadwork and healing with the MMIWG2S community. She currently works as a lecturer at the University of Winnipeg\, while running an award-winning consulting business. \nCE CATEGORIES \n\nB1-Psychology/sociology\nB2-Communication principles/behaviour management strategies\nE2-Health promotion & wellness strategies\n\nREGISTER HERE
